Human nature can be contradictory when it comes to healing and health. Often, there’s a discrepancy between the values we aspire to and the criteria by which we actually live. Many people seem to possess an uncanny ability to overlook some part of our life that’s unhealthy. Instead, a short circuit occurs and the negative behaviour is engaged . The great news is this: We have choices in life.

Patterns of jalousie can be altered, and a more congruent, wholesome lifestyle could be lived. Usually, there’s an underlying reason an unhealthy practice is continued when a person “knows better.” When the origin of the problem is revealed and addressed, then there’s espoir that a healthy lifestyle can be achieved. Perhaps a few examples will demonstrate my point. I understand a heart surgeon who informs all his patients who smoking, red meat and alcohol are detrimental to the center.
He recommends that his patients refrain from these 3 things. In his personal life, this respected surgeon eats steaks, smokes cigars, and drinks wine frequently. Another example is a health-conscious buddy of mine who’s fanatically vegan. Every day that he smokes pot and says it’s healthy as it’s natural. Another buddy regularly practices juicing and fasting for optimal health, then binges on carbohydrates, sugars and fats in between. All 3 individuals believe in the worth of a healthy lifestyle, and like most of us, the healthful values are incongruent with the unhealthy habits.
I can relate to those inconsistencies since I recently changed a similar refusal pattern in my life. Although I know sleep is a valuable part of a healthy lifestyle, I often resisted going to bed before midnight, though I wake up by 5:00 a.m.. After a couple of friends said that they were worried about my lack of sleep, I had to confess it had been having some negative impacts in my life. I was willing to check out the underlying issues. I discovered three beliefs which I was denying to myself:
- I don’t like to sleep alone
- My body is aging and needs more sleep than in prior years
- Sleep is very important to rejuvenation.
What issues are inherent my denial? First, I’m an identical twin and do not like to be lonely. Second, though I feel 36 indoors, I’m in my 50s. And third, lost sleep can’t be recaptured. Was I prepared to release the grip that these unhealthy patterns and beliefs had more than me? Yes, I was. Through rebirthing sessions, hypnotherapy, and a conscious effort to change my sleeping habits, I get to bed sooner. I’ve learned that I’m fine by myself, that sleep is useful for my elderly body, and I can appreciate a good night’s rest. I have more énergie throughout the day, my thinking is clearer, and my immune system is stronger. Perhaps you can determine an unhealthy pattern in your own life. If you’re not certain, consult a trusted friend. Hope starts when the veil of denial is lifted. You can enjoy the gift of a vital, healthy life!
